Not actually having either I would take the Mac in a NY second !!!
The Mac uses KT88s and the PL KT120s. I never liked the sound of the 120 and do like the sound of the 88s. But the reason is Mac a better amp.
Follow Ups:
I would suggest an audition,if possible.
I have been impressed with the SQ of the PrimaLuna integrateds.I owned a PL2 for many years and with a little input tube rolling,it was first-rate.
Have considered the HP unit and match it up with a pair of Quads.
Good luck on your quest.

have the non HP version. MC275 and PL have a different sound. 275 is warmer sounding. With the stock tubes, PL can almost sound like a SS amp. would agree with other poster, tube rolling is quite key on the PL. Would also suggest you cap roll on the PL, pull the SCRs out and install Jensen or Jupiter copper foil caps. night and day difference.
Would also suggest trying the MC240 with KT88s installed inplace of 6L6GCs.
quite a nice amp.

The Stereophile reviewer Robert Deutsch directly compared the PL Dialogue HP with the MC-275, and said there was not much difference, with the MC-275 being his favorite by a slight margin.http://www.stereophile.com/content/primaluna-dialogue-premium-hp-integrated-amplifier

That was a nice way of saying the McIntosh out classed it the PL.
Yeah a $10,000 CAT SL-1 preamp with the $6,500 MC 275 totals $16,500, compared to the $4,200 PL.... that's four times the price.
I wonder, does it sound four times better....?
You could have the ssame preamp which makes the difference only $2,300, not 4X-
and for that $2,300 you will get some amazing transformers from a company that understands how to wind great transformers-
Not really a comparison in my book-
Happy Listening
Nope! When you're dealing at that level people should be a little more critical and take more time in choosing an expensive amp.One reason I would choose the Mc is it's made in NY state.
