I have heard of the "tube rush" only thing is this is the first tube preamp I've used or heard so I cannot compare it to anything as of yet.
I would like to try the attenuators, been reading about them...any negative effects on SQ?
What I'm experiencing with this preamp, is mainly hiss with a very slight hint of grit in the hiss...like a guitar amp but not as loud.
The hiss is on every input, volume turned down, when seated 9' away, I can barely hear it but it's audible, when muted it's gone. When I turn the volume half way up its clearly audible and this is especially on quiet passages in the music.
This happens on any tube combination.
Also, when I have the CD/DAC connected to the CD input, I can change inputs and with the volume halfway up I can hear the material from the CD input on other inputs. This is irregardless of inputs or outputs.
Don't get me wrong, this 2.5 sounds extremely good, but the hiss on quiet passages from 9' away concerns me.
Follow Ups:
If your noise gets worse when you turn up the volume, I don't think attenuators will help. My preamp had noise independent of the volume control. In fact, if I selected an input with nothing connected, I could turn the volume control full open and the noise was exactly the same as when the volume control was turned off. When I attenuated the preamp's output so that normal listening occurred with my volume control between 2 and 3 o'clock, it eliminated my noise problem completely.
Good luck,
John Elison
The noise stays the same regardless of input selection, volume level. If I turn it up past say, 75% ..I can hear slightly more noise but I suspect that would be normal.
I will try the supressors, and update my findings.

Something is not right. I've had a VTL 2.5 for about 13 years, and other than when a tube has started to go, it has always been dead silent with the volume turned down.
I'm currently watching TV, so tried to recreate your bleed through scenario using that as the source. The broadcast wasn't audible until the volume knob was turned to about 3 o'clock.

Sorry for the delay with an update, thw holiday season had me hunkered down with not much listening time.
My issues are still the same, the noise is still the same through the speakers, I did try some attenuators but the only ones avail were 20db and the 10 dB versions are still backordered. The noise went away for the most part but it seemed that the highs were rolled off slightly....hoping the 10db Rothwells become avail soon.
I do thoroughly enjoy the tubes, but my noise floor that I spent a good deal of $$$ getting to as silent as I could, has come back with a mean vengeance with this preamp.
I have a signal generator, older analog Tek 465B scope, and a good DMM
....any tips on checking this out myself I'm open to suggestions.
Keep us posted- dyl71
