This is a Decware inspired EL84 power amp with attenuation. My twist was to make a it a EL84 SE UL (not triode). Also I upgraded the PS a little. One PS tweak was to use a Russian PIO 4uf cap as the first cap in the PS. Also the larger electros are all snubbed. The inter-stage caps are Audio Note Tin foil, mylar and oil. The amp I called "Tamarisk" - just like how it sounds. The finished amp looks good and not too heavy. Sound is a big step up from my already great sounding 6V6 - Ozzie tube SE UL amp. On live classical every part of the music has a layer. There every instrument is heard in its own layer and decay, reveb etc also have their own layers. If I had have paid $5K for this amp it sounds like what I would expect for that money.

what type of power does it put out?
Is that a triode/UL toggle?
Did you use a schematic (recipe) from Decware and improvise (gourmet meal)?
Really beautiful. Had a Decware EL34i that I truly miss.

Thanks for the nice comment. Yes, simple and beautiful. I'm testing the amp today for power and frequency limits. It should only produce a few watts. I did not put a triode\UL switch I wants to keep it SE UL.
I based the build heavily on the Decware schematic, which, until you build one you do not realise the tweaks they put in. I choked the PS and used much bigger caps in the PS.
The little amp drove my friends 400lb 6' tall Osborn Grand Monuments with ease yesterday with lots of extended bass. Very impressed.

Is the reason for apparently having two inputs that one bypasses the attenuator?
That truly is a nice looking amp. And I'm sure it sounds as good as it looks. Lottsa TLC put into it.
I have two tube amps and the EL84 really is a sweet sounding tube. One of the top five best!
I'm using a VTA ST-70 with EL34's. Nice amp. Last week I put in a set of Gold Lion KT-66's and wow - it jumped another level up!!! Later that week I switched over to my humble Sherwood S-5000 with EL84s and darn if it didn't keep pace with sound quality.
enjoy and post some more reviews.

I was told years ago that the EL84 was one of the best sounding hifi tubes. I would have to agree. It is also quite a punchy tube. Lots of drive. I use 98db 12" Beymas as my speakers. Even with this low power amp they play real loud.

A true stunner. What is the top plate material/finish?
Thanks for the nice comment. The top plate is thick ABS plastic.
