...try these guys.
They've been doing Hafler mods for over 25 years.
J Hillig never wrote back?
...Hillig is in the business of selling updates for Hafler products and apparently he doesn't have time to troubleshoot yours.
Maybe you should buy an update from him to get it repaired at the same time :-)
I sent them a email yesterday but haven't heard from them yet,I will keep you posted.
Have you taken off the lower cover and looked at the condition of the circuit traces and solder joints on the underside of the main circuit board?
This sounds like a cracked solder joint or a broken trace to me.
Also look for bulging electrolytic capacitors.

The manual is something I need on paper, I do not have a printer and am computer illiterate.
If yourself or anyone could help me out on this I would compensate you for your time.
I also need a manual for the DH-200 amp, I think there might be a problem there also.
The preamp has been modified, there are many capacitors that are not listed on the original unit. There are also film resistors on the main board. It isn't a pretty preamp but it did work and it will again.
Thanks to the inmates here, I can not thank you enough.
Funny thing, last night I took the cover off the bottom and looked around.
There was 1 bad tracer that I found,I ran a separate wire and soldered in place. There was another in question that was not broken, just lifted off the board so I left it alone.I haven't tried it out yet but will let you know. Thanks for the manual.
Check and clean the Ext Patch jumpers in the back panel while you're at it.
I had my DH 101 modded by Jensen's Stereo Shop in the Midwest somewhere in the late 1970's. (I still have it but haven't plugged it in in years.)
The tech's name was Frank Van Alstine. Yep, nowadays 'Audio by Van Altstine'...AVA). Give Frank a call, he is opinionated but very knowledgable and approachable. He can probably put you on to a repair shop or manuals/schematics.
Thanks,I will try and find his number and maybe a email address.
Wiggle every connection and adjustment on the front end as well.
Let's rule out dirty controls as well.
good luck and post your findings
charles
Yes,I tried to clean all the controls,I need a schematic and a owners manual....that would help a bunch.
Plus someone who works on these and knows them like the back of there hand and is honest and reasonable.....is that asking to much?
THANKS
Is this an integrated amp or just a preamp?
If it is an integrated does it have amp/preamp output jacks?
don't worry there are still honest people still out there that fix these things. You will have to ship it. But it is worth the shipping cost to have it done right by an honest tech.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and check out the asylum ads for repairs. Most of those guys have been here since the beginning. Or do a search on them as well.

IT IS A SS PREAMP ,ALONG WITH A HAFLER 200 AMP IT USED TO SOND PRETTY DECENT. Now THE AMP SEEMS TO HAVE DROPPED THE RIGHT CHANNEL!
Did you try flipping speaker connections, left to right? To rule out speaker problems?
Thanks!
That is the only thing I haven
t swapped around.I swapped left to right rca connectors on amp and preamp and tried the cd player so I could be sure the tuner wasn't at fault.
I'll try the speaker wire change soon.
thanks
Maybe dirty contacts?
I cleaned those and it seemed to get better, but then the next time I turned it on was the same thing?
nt
Yes I have,thEy are OK.
