Guess the topic is all in the subject.
I now own an ARC 100.2 but I'm thinking of replacing it with a V70.
Pre is ARC LS25/II, speakers B&W804s.
What would I get in this change ? And what would I lose ?
thanks, ciao

as a long term owner of various Audio Research and other tube amps, here's what I suspect you'll find:
1. You'll enjoy the triode operation of the V70 and get an improved midrange focus.
2. KT90 tubes are still available so that shouldn't be a factor.
3. You'll lose ~ 3db maximum power output, but not necessarily impact since the V70's power supply has about twice the energy of the 100.2.
4. After looking at the Stereophile review and the impedance curves of your B&Ws, the tonal difference may well be quite complementary. The peaks could level out the upper bass and *fix* the upper midrange suckout.
You really need to hear the V70 in your system to get the full picture. Since you indicate that you listen to classical music, I suspect the overall difference would be positive.
Which sounds better to you? Have you considered that maybe what you need
is different loudspeakers? Or maybe room treatments? Or power conditioning?
Mike, it's just curiosity due to my "audiophilia", this desease I'm afflicted with :)
I've got nothing particular to complain about my 100.2 (OK, I know one can do much better, regardless of the 100.2 per se, but...).
I must confess that E-Stat comments are quite inriguing...
