Hello everybody,
I currently have a Jolida JD1501RC as the center of the 2 CH HT. I want to add a center channel to the system. Keeping in mind it's a 2 CH intergated, is there a way to add a center channel without having to buy a new amplifier? Unfortunatley the amp is not equiped with a preamp out, which would make a solution much easier.
So, do I have any options short of buying a new amplifier?
Thank you
Bill

Product Description -explained by the manufacturer
High Power 240w RMS output. The best part about the kit is that it is made of individual components and IC's . Also all the power-supply components are built in, Simply need to add a Transformer and it will work. Comes with pre integrated Volume, Bass and Terrible controller.
If you do not understand any thing about wattage simply calculate the power of the Transformer to verify it. 24-0-24 means 48v with center tap. Now 48v 5Amp is 240w RMS. So you can be sure that the device that you buy will give you more than 240w Pure RMS and NOT CHEAP PMPO. Also the kit contains a Microphone Input which is Yellow and Blue colour and a 12V input for the Microphone which is Red and white. We have never tested the microphone feature but you can do it and let us know about the same. Also this Kit can officially drive up to 240w.
The board support's 90w per channel plus a 60w woofer on a separate connection.
So when you Buy a AMPLIFIER instead of asking the seller about the wattage, simply ask for the transformer inside the amp. And Multiply Voltage and Current to get the wattage consumption of the device.

Sadly, I need my controllers to at least be reasonable. I'd prefer they were awesome. Just can't abide with one that is terrible. :(

All that says is that the power supply is probably adequate for the module but it says nothing about audio output at all.
The STK4141 is a <$10 integrated module which is rated at 25wpc.
this: I want a center channel because? And based on your answer we can go from there.

Sure. Having trouble picking up on some dialog during movie watching. Regular TV, such as news programs, dyi shows, sporting broadcasting, etc, are not a problem. Today's movie soundtracks with their multichannel recordings and wide dynamic have made my 2 CH HT a challenge when it comes to hear all that is being said, behind all the action scenes, which I'm sure are tracked on a center channel.
Roger that! It was my guess as well. Do you have a good mono center image when you listen to a good recording with the music end of the system? Even when I sold HT I found movies had all kinds of dialog level and even in a 5.1 you would need to adjust the center channel between most movies.
Check the link below. You can add a third mono (summed) speaker to a stereo pair. I think an amp w/common ground is required. I would also add a full range center in this type of configuration, not one with a tweeter

When I had a full 7.4 HT rig...I was ALWAYS fiddling with the center channel levels...
Now I live in a small condo and my music rig pulls double duty...my center image is great...friends and family have asked..."where is the Center Channel Speaker"...and some even ask about surrounds...big Maggies can throw images around the room...spooky with the right material...
thanks

Thank you for that. I had done a search but that didn't come up. Will try this, as I have a set of 3 ways currently sitting in the closest doing nothing. It sounds easy enough to try. Old school, love it! Plus I can keep enjoying my Jolida if this works.
Good luck. Post on your results at some point

Wired a third speaker, as a substitute for a center channel, into my HT over the weekend. Was easy to do, just followed the directions outlined in the above post(thanks Awedofile), known as the Haffler array. With this third speaker sitting centered under my tv, I found the results to be pretty good(might even try to move to above the TV if I can attach a shelf easily - for better sound). Vocals became easier to understand without having to raise the volume levels during DVD/movie play. If there was any distortion or crosstalk, I couldn't hear it. It's early in this experiment but I think I can easily live with this compromise, at least till I am forced to buy a multichannel system. So happy to say, for now the Jolida is safe & sound.
Thanks everybody!
You got it, was planning to.

But there are SO MANY home theater processors/amplifiers on the market now, used, that you should have no trouble finding one.
I know and agree. Just hate to have to shelf a perfectly good working intergrated amp if I didn't need to, was hoping I could just add to it and solve my problem, better hearing of dialog in some of today's movie tracks. Really not about the money, just hate to waste what I currently have but it might be my only choice.
DON'T ditch the nice two-channel amp as it appears to be a well-made unit that probably sounds good as well for two-channel listening. As I suggested, find a multichannel amp for cheap and hook it up to your TV. Use the two-channel for music.
