Anyone auditioned this $1699 amplifier
Edits: 10/09/14Follow Ups:
I've owned the JOB225 for the last year. Use it to drive KEF LS50's. It's a wonderfully detailed naturally sounding amp.

I use the Goldmund JOB 225 to drive KEF R500 from the pre-out of my Sony STR-DA5400ES it sounds wonderful best value in audio, no retailer or distributor mark up,"they claim it is best small amplifier in the world" certainly the best one I have ever experienced.

I'm not really. I have a DAC/digital switch that's has an ALPS volume
control. It's something called AMI DDH-1. It's utility for me is that
in addition to being a very good sounding DAC and switching among
different digital inputs it has a lone analog input that I use for my phono output.
Since the unit puts out about 3volts, I'm using a pair of Goldenjacks to
get better volume resolution. As far as I can tell, the've had absolutely
no impact on sound quality.

I'm curious too, as my pre is tubed; a basic, simple and good sounding circuit (IMHO), but not by any means antique!

I agree this is most important Z what are you using for a pre ? if it is an antique tube I lose interest immediately.
No idea how it sounds, but they should hire someone to copy edit their website. I'm guessing english is the second language.

Is this the same Goldmund that repackaged a $200 Pioneer DV300 DVD player in their own sheet metal (with barely any changes) and priced it at $6000?
I'd really, REALLY, want to do business with a company like that.....NOT!
Check out the write up and links @ Lampizator.
Caveat Emptor,
Al
I believe you are referring to Lexicon.

No, I'm not referring to Lexicon!
If this is Goldmund of Switzerland then they are the same company that re-boxed a $200 Pioneer DVD300 and marketed it for $6,000 just a few years ago. It was quite the scandal but some audiophiles tend to forget, sometimes on purpose. My take on it is that past performance is usually the best predictor of future performance.
Is this "new" Goldmund amplifier merely a cosmetically altered cheap Chinese product as sold by obscure Asian marketers on e-bay? Who knows?
At the asking price I doubt that it's manufactured in Switzerland. I'm not trying to be a price snob but one has to wonder, considering Goldmund's past history.
Just Google this or go to the Lampizator review (with included links) to find out about the Goldmund/Pioneer debacle for yourself!
Cheers,
Al
Here's a note Anne (of Job) sent to 6moons:

Subject: Job 225 amplifiers
"'You might have heard of the new Job 225 which Job Electronics created recently. You can find more information on our stereo amp here. We were wondering whether you'd be interested in reviewing one. Thank you. - Anne, Job Electronics (cc: Michel Reverchon, C.E.O., Goldmund Intl.*)
"'Job Electronics Inc. is a California company to closely control US sales. We gave 225 production to the same Swiss firm which makes Goldmund electronics, Digital Audio SA of Geneva. Job Electronics and Digital Audio SA are part of the AIHC Group. The 225 uses the latest version of the JOB circuit also used by Goldmund and Stellavox. These are all various iterations of a similar schematic.'"
"The address label on their sturdy double-boxed carton read "Goldmund, Digital Audio SA, Chemin du Pre Fleuri 3, 1228 Plan les Quates, Suisse". This laid to rest any lingering doubts diehard cynics might harbor about the utilitarian Job 225 really stemming from that bespoke stable."

Doesn't prove a thing, says this "diehard cynic"!
The Pioneer/Goldmund ripoff was also double boxed and carried a Swiss address.
I remain extremely skeptical of any company that can engage in this kind of deception and insist that it isn't doing anything dishonest. Next thing you know they'll be pissing on your shoes while insisting that it's only raining.
Cheers,
Al
based on Srajan's visit to their site, that the Job products are built in, and ship from, Geneva.

How much did they pay for the review?
Cheers,

That visit was before the new business model took effect.

Thanks! for sharing- A1. Very important to expose this company. if this in fact, did occur.
fantja,
This happened a while back. It was all over the 'net. Funny how people forget.
I made it easy and attached a link. Just follow the other links attached to the lampizator link, then decide if this, in fact, did occur.
Cheers,
Al
Thank You!
Cary Audio made the same blunder with there DVD-8 universal player around 2007. It was a $170 Oppo DVD970 in Cary skin selling for $1200. They didn't even change the remote other than the Cary logo instead of Oppo's.
Though they make nice tube amps, I've likewise always wondered if there totl cdps were cheap products made by obscure Chinese manufacturers in Cary skin.
While I haven't, and since you mentioned it, I have put it on my short list of power amps. First someone mentions the Odyssey Khartago, and now this one!
You guys are really trying to steer me away from that Class D Audio model!
Sorry for the short rant (and not answering your question)...
Cheers,

Lots of info.
I'm put off by the very high sensitivity making it hard to match with a preamp.

Hmm... Some interesting points there, and certainly by some people that actually know what they are talking about.
I will have to tread lightly, as I KNOW my preamp (tube, of course) has a "goodly" amount of gain (6n1p/12ax7 cathode follower type circuit plus an MM preamp stage as well).
I may just have to post my new and used amplifier short list and then let the "dogs have at it" here! LOL
