I updated my pre recently and my source. So now I'm like the guy with the new shirt and suit who's shoes now look ratty. After mulling around several possibilities I went tube. Rogue Atlas Magnum.
It's the safest bet. And I always forget this amp is so cheap - only two grand. He could sell these for $2500 (or more). Money is not my biggest concern but it's nice to get a bargain.
Pics when it gets here.
Can't wait to hear it on my Quads. And the Peachtrees.

Congrats! Let us know what you think of the Rogue after you've had some hours on it. As you know, I have the very similar Cronus Magnum integrated. It's basically the same as your Atlas Magnum but with a preamp section.
BTW, I had the old Peachtree iDecco (with iPod dock on top that I never used) in the family room system driving a pair of Tannoy Saturn S8LR bookshelf speakers. It was certainly much better than the tiny TV speakers but something was bugging me. The highs seemed a bit rolled off and not very dynamic and transparent overall. This could be partially due to insufficient power to get the best out of my speakers and the early Peachtree design. It's one of the originals from many years ago.
I swapped in a Marantz PM8003 integrated and it made a world of difference for the better. I'm wondering if the early Peachtrees were lacking and the newest ones are much improved.
The Marantz didn't cut it in my main system especially up against the Rogue but it sure is doing a fine job in the family room for TV and movies, strictly a 2-ch setup.
This is one reason why I often don't reply to these types of threads. (Not just yours.) Sometimes, if the poster seems to have a clue, I might reply with a request for more useful information, or maybe a helpful reply.
You are a special case.
One day, you're asking about a Parasound A23 vs a Burson (I've never heard of Burson) "timekeep".
Then, another day, you're asking about a Parasound A21 vs A23.
Then, another day, you're asking about a cage for a tube amp to keep the cats out*.
You've not posted anything about hearing any of these amps, in or out of your system. Have you heard all of them (especially, in your system)?
And, THEN, upon announcing the tube amp you've purchased, you say that you've also gotten a new source and a new preamp, but you say nothing about what they are.
*"Does the optional tube cage fit over the KT120's? Aren't they tallish tubes? I'll probably ask Mark on Monday but I thought someone here might now. With three cats tube cage is not optional. ".
Eye-yie-yie.
I think he was just verbalizing his thought process as he was about to pull the trigger on a new piece of audio gear.
I've often waffled about thinking of different gear as I sought advise and narrowed my choice.
Part of the hobby for me, is to experience different equipment. I'm probably more guilty of trying various gear than most folks here. ;-)
Abe, how is the new Sony TA-A1ES now that you've had it a month or so?
Jim
I have no complaints with the Sony TA-A1ES. It sounds nice but not quite up there with my Rogue Cronus Magnum tube integrated. I use both amps in my smallish home office / listening room combo. I can leave the Sony ON all day and listen while I work on the computer. I can do the same with the Rogue but at the expense of wearing out costly tubes for 'background music'. They both run a bit warm but that's not the issue for me.
Although I've had a couple wonderful sounding solid-state setups, I have found that they typically cost much more to achieve satisfying sound. I can achieve comparable or better sound with more modestly price vacuum tube gear. Go figure, but that has been my experience.
The Sony is fine but I have owned higher-end solid-state separates that sound noticeably better.
I wouldn't call it a giant killer but the Sony does perform better than my Denon PMA-2000ivr or the Marantz PM-8003. I'd like to try one of the Yamaha integrated amps maybe next year. I'm considering the Yamaha A-S2000 or A-S2100.

No kidding. I love hearing about your purchases, Abe.
Congrats. Yes, Abe you have owned some sweet gear. I always enjoy reading about the changes you guys make to your rigs. Keep us the good work!
I'm not sure what you're saying other than you're pissing on me.
So kindly FUCK OFF.

No need for the profanity.
I was trying to help you to see how "all over the map" you were, with regard to your amp questions and final choice.
However, I won't, as you say, "fuck off". Rather, I will continue to contribute to this forum, even when a person will benefit from some straight talk which they might not want to hear.
:)
My god man. I have never seen anybody rotate and "upgrade" as much as you. You are single handedly keeping the industry afloat!
You must have unlimited space!
Just a guess...but single with no kids? :)
Single, retired and no kids. And don't like to travel.
I had a friend who turned his system every month. I'm enthusiastic, he was full-blown batshit crazy.
He's broke and living in a rented room somewhere now.
Kids, don't let this happen to you. :)

Any one who turns there system over every month, or even twice a year,
They don't have a clue. But they have money.
If you're here to make personal comments about posters rather than about gear kindly FUCK OFF.
That's my standard reply to assholes like you these days.

What personal attack ?
You said your friend was "Full-blown Batshit Crazy"
& I was agreeing with you.
Enjoy your new amp & give us all a detailed review on what you think.
I'll keep that in mind, and will endeavor to refrain from replying to your posts, unless you go wacko again and might be a danger to others.
:)
Lol....NOW yiu tell me!!!More power to you, Even though I think you churn gear...we have very similar taste. all the gear you seem to hunt down I consider to be excellent values.
Want another? The iFi Micro DSD DAC is superb for $499.

I'm still on the fence as to which way I'm gonna go as far as power amps are concerned.
Sadly, I've been vacillating so much on this that the cash I had started to save for whatever my choice ended up being had to go for other items (darn priorities!!!).
Solid State? Maybe. Anything I want that is a sand amp would probably be class A (heat, higher E bills, etc).
Tubes? Cost and maintenance are issues (well, mostly maintenance as witnessed by my refurb, care and feeding of the ARC D76a- this time, I just wanna sit down and listen!).
Class D? Looks neat on paper, some say it sounds great; others not so much, and certainly they can take up less space for a given output (and less draw from the outlets)...
For sure, let us know what you think once you get he Rogue in and dialed in! I will be waiting!!! LOL

I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would purchase a class D amp when there are so many options out there with great sounding class AB amps. The 'green thing' is the only reason I can think of.
Class d - couple of things to remember. Needs a LONG break in time. Like 400 hours. Also needs to be turned on ALL THE TIME. Takes hours to 'come on'.
But it's designed to be left on all the time, so actually quite convenient. Just break it in properly, leave it powered up 24/7 and you'll get some very nice sound.
I bought one of the closeout Peachtree 220's on a lark just to hear it and it's a very nice amp. If was a good deal at retail, at 50% off it's a steal. I set it up in my HT last night running my front left & right and it sounds freaking amazing. Was very surprised.
The Atlas has only eight tubes and the 12AX7 and 12AU7's are widely available and not expensive so what the heck, that's what I'm going with for the 2-channel system.

The intention (if I were to do class D) would be leaving it on 24/7 anyway; D-wife gets thrown for a loop with all the power switches to turn on and off, and in what order! This could be a bonus for her (and eventually, a sonic one for me!) The power to cost ratio is VERY tempting here. Current front runner is an offering from Class D Audio. Yes, I'm being as budget conscious as possible...
I'm really not sure about doing tubes again. Old amp was an ARC D76A, which D-wife and loved. Unfortunately, it was requiring more and more time on the bench than I was willing to give. I've heard some freakin' incredible sounding glass that would do the source/speakers justice, but oh, the cost of such beasts (VTL, ARC, etc...)!!! I've considered (briefly) even going OTL, but again the power to cost ratio starts to get WAY out of whack.
Thanks for your thoughts on class D, BTW!
Cheers,
Dman
