Have >95 db efficient speakers with somewhat wooly bss. Looking for tubelike midrange, bass slam. Leben? SS suggestions?
Follow Ups:
You want bass control and slam in a low powered (wattage) amp with tube like midrange?
Look for a solid state 20w-50w amp that runs high class A bias say 10-20w that can come close to doubling it wattage from 8ohms to 4ohms to 2ohms.
One (new) that springs to mind is Pass labs XA-30.5 and XA-60.5

there are many others as well, high on my list of favs is the old ML-2 monoblocks. only 25w into 8ohms but keeps doubling all the way to 1ohm

What you ask is a speaker/amp interaction NOT simply a function of amp OR of speaker.
A number of electrical and mechanical aspects must come together to get the slam you seek.
Reasonable slew rate. Good quick PS and adequate storage of energy. Good speaker sensitivity with low reactance. 'Q' near critically damped. Speaker response at least to the low 30s.
Maybe others, but this is what occurs to me right off the bat.
Too much is never enough
simply it has slam but with tone and texture. Awesome stuff.
Wooly bass has more to do with the design of the speaker with the Qtc which describes the quality of the damping. It's poor damping indicating lots of overhang that makes for clean bass. Low power only enters into it if the amp is clipped and the amp is unstable and takes time to recover.
18 wpc but superb bass extension, impact, texture...you name it!

If you are talking about tight, detailed bass below 45HZ, you will need more than very sensitive speakers, you will need high quality speakers that go down into the 20HZ region, while retaining detail and dynamics from your amp, or else a high quality subwoofer, along with room treatments that eliminate the ill-effects of resonant frequencies (boominess).
For amps, my limited experience a class A SS amp with a transistor output stage will be your best bet, or else a very good 211 SET or PP amp. A 45 SET or PP might also work, depending on the size of your room.
Observe, before you think. Think before you open your yap. Act on the basis of experience.
If the OP is really talking about "bass slam," he's probably referencing the tight, visceral bit that hits you quickly. That tends to be more in the 50 to 80 Hertz range. Anything below that will certainly be felt as much as heard, but will rumble your guts, much more than "slam" them.
High efficiency speakers are not known for "slam". Focus on the sweet spots of the amp and speaker and let the sub do the slamming. Been there.charles

Most high efficiency speakers cannot produce bass slam. So it may not be your amp.....
Really?
This will put you on the floor with one watt.
As will this
And this
I also have built several sets of a dual 12 based tower that are down around 100dB/W that will do the same in a fraction of the size.
I guess you didn't read my last posting. I sais you cant achieve that low of bass without being the size of a house. Those pictures are not what most consumers would put in their homes....
If it's 25 Hz, 2.5 to 4.5 cu ft BRs with JBL 2226 or the like won't do it but if it's kick drum or Low "E" string in your chest (my definition) with a 2 Watt Parafeed DHT Amp it will.
Ask me about the Yamaha Silent Brass
Best get out there and audition some 'decent' drivers then.
Is all I can say.

I was speaking in general terms. If you want low bass with a high efficiency speaker they have to be as big as a house.
..he didn't mention that he wanted to plum the depths. Plenty of moderate sized horn speakers will give you all the bass slam you need, and some go well into the 30s.

Not really. A 6th order assisted alignment can be quite compact for what it is. I have a Selenium WPU1505 15" in a 3.75 cu. ft. box with an f3 of 28 Hz.
A 2 cu ft 2nd order sealed box with an F3 of 30hz can only be 0.18% efficient (84.55dB).
A 2 cu ft 4th order vented box with an F3 of 30hz can only be 0.36% efficient (87.56dB).
A 2 cu ft 6th order vented box with an F3 of 30hz can only be 0.90% efficient (91.54dB).I have been doing 6th order assisted boxes since EV led the way in 1974 with their Interface A and Sentry III.

Two of these in a 6th order PPSL would be fun.
If you are looking for a tube amp, you might want to audition both the Manley Stingray and the Rogue Cronus Magnum...to these old ears they are both great sounding integrated amps...the Rogue has a more robust bass response, but the overall sound of the Stingray is a bit more refined. If you are buying new gear, the Rogue's price, compared to the Manley's, would be justification enough to give it serious consideration.
Good luck,
Raven
heard the rogue against the leben 300: Rogue had more bass but looser, the leben had a tighter grip. AQrt Dudly comaped the leben with the class a luxman and said the same
for solid state, first watt, or the lower power PASS amps. For Tube Manley, or a Bob Latino modded dynaco ST70, I have one and used it with Klisch Cornwalls....Great amp
The Bob Latino ST 70 sounded awfully dynamic into the pair of Tekton M-Lores ( + or - 95 db) I use to own. I wish I'd kept them long enough to try with my current Line Magnetic 218IA, which has an even stronger (but tight) bass character.
