I did a search but 411 is non-existent since the few inquiries going back ~ one year
I am on the BO list. I have enjoyed the hell out of my P3, bu the subwoofer controls are needed here.
Also, I am excited/curious to hear whether the built in DAC will better my Pioneer Elite PD 65 with Musical Concepts mod (includes outboard PS. Maybe 4 years ago I upgraded the dacs on advice found here
Follow Ups:
I read the manual and spoke /wrote to a couple dealers.
Yes, the bass management applies to BOTH the single ended AND balanced connections. Good.
You'll need to check the book if you intend to use the HT bypass feature and don't forget the dedicated sub outs are MONO.
And while Stereophile isn't in love with the DAC section, it IS usable. I suspect my CA DacMagic+ is somewhat better. But, the front panel input for iPod will be used….as well as the headphone output….which I HOPE mutes the 'normal' outputs.
I'll be pulling the trigger on this pretty soon.
Along with a PAIR of the A23 amps so I can biamp my panels.
Too much is never enough
Not a real balanced design…..too bad, but expected at that price point.
Bass management should be a big help, especially if you want to limit your 'main' speakers at the lower frequencies to save amp power.
Parasound claims big improvements over the P3.
This is on my 'check it out' list…but I may end up with a full balanced designe in the form of a W4S STP-SE for about 2x the $$$ and NO bass management.
I'm waiting for THE Newport and try to find a 'deal'….even saving sales tax would help.
Too much is never enough
The balanced boards are 'discrete' not the entire preamp, so pretty much balanced when using balanced
I am told…..here in these boards, that the 'conversion' back and forth has sonic consequences. This is why I'd at least be aware of a TRUE balanced design from input to output. In the least expensive category, the Emotiva ESP-1 IS fully balanced and has recently been 'upgraded' to completely surface mount construction. For about the same money, that may be a contender, as well.
I'm looking right now. The P-5 with a PAIR of A-23s to biamp my panels would certainly be a welcome addition and change from the current 'D' integrated.
Too much is never enough
Thanks for the 411 on the EmotivaI'll check it out
I have used the A21 on the ribbons- it is sweeter than my class D W4S
Re: Emotiva pre
Considering they started with a clean sheet, they left out Polarity control Sigh

I once did a 'concept design' of a preamp with ALL the features possible.
Tape monitor? yep…with various controls.
Triple tone controls with variable turnover? for sure.
input AND output selector switches. absolutely.
Phono MM/ MC? WITH impedance / capacitance selectors
Lowcut/ Hicut / Rumble filters.
I think I even included a hi-blend control for hiss reduction.
and on and on.
I DO NOT know how the EMO sounds. However, the tone trim controls, for me, would be a reasonable swap for the absolute polarity which I DO have, but seldom (annually) use.
However, I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about W4S STP-SE since it has multiple balanced outputs and I intend biamping my panels with say…..a PAIR of Parasound A-23s……and later get an ACTIVE crossover together and eliminate the in-panel stuff….or bypass, anyway!
Too much is never enough
If Polarity control was on your remote, you would and quite often, even between cuts on the same discs
Many are recorded in various studios, then tossed together
That said, I find bass to be the biggest offender, and the most easily noticed as when it's out he sound is muddy and the sound stage blurry
I gave up chasing 'polarity' a while ago. The miss-mosh of the modern album is off-putting, at best.
And yes, imagine an album recorded at 3 different studios with tracks edited at yet another studio where the final album was 'assembled'.
Not a chance that you've got any kind of coherence here.
Question:
ARE there any standards of wiring / execution in the studio?
Too much is never enough
Never heard of Paasound. Do they make Easter Egg speakers?
My 'R' key is not cooperating
Reviews are appearing, e.g., just recently in Stereophile, but I think the probability of anyone comparing it to a "Pioneer Elite PD 65 with Musical Concepts mod (includes outboard PS)" is small to none.
Certainly I would not expect a dac comparo, but for my enjoyment it should be interesting

Hello everyone,This is my first post on Asylum.Just want to give a small review of the P5 I purchased last week.My reason for buying the P5 was the HT Bypass.I was using a Marantz SR7005 HT receiver and using the preouts with a NAD BEE275.The Marantz and NAD combo were great but I always thought the preout in the Marantz was not allowing the NAD amp to reach it's full potential. This is my living room system. In my mancave I have two NAD BEE275 with NAD BEE165 preamp that's is bi-wired and bridged.Anyway, the P5 has given me the power and sound I was missing using the Marantz HT while im still able to enjoy 5.1 DD,DTS ect with the HT by-pass.But it gets better. The phono MM section is this is superb.I compared it to Clearaudio NANO,Musical Fidelity VLPS with V-PSU upgraded power supply, and Emotiva phono preamp. It easily exceeded the sonics of each of these.Turntable used in testing is Sony TTS-8000,Micro Sieki MA-505S,Clearaudio Maestro. In addition the intergrated DAC using USB exceeded the sonics of a V-DAC and upgraded V-PSU power. To sum it up.I gained more slam and power,a better phono pre, and DAC.Thumbs up 5 stars to the Parasound P5.

"The phono MM section is this is superb."
I've enjoyed the MM phono input in the P7 for a long while now. I wonder if the P5 has the same circuitry or not?
See ya. Dave
Good question Jive.I can say the phono pre is the best I have heard in my Living Room system.Totaly unexpected.Beacuase the external phono stages I compared it to above all easily exceed the built in Phono in my NAD BEE165 located in the mancave.I had low expectations going in.The P5 Phono section is jaw dropping good in my opinion.Wish I could do a side by side with the P7.
This was posted over on AVS a couple of days ago regarding the P5/P7.
"I like the P7 for its Analog section better than the P5 but they are two different animals. It really depends on what features you are using and what type of bass management you might need phono stage etc."
