What is the real difference between these two preamps? And which one is the better preamp? They both seem to have the same amount of inputs including balanced inputs. The front face is different on each. Sonically how are they? And how do these tube preamps stand up to todays offerings? This will be matched with a YBA 2HC SS amp.
Follow Ups:
I have had the Line 1SE for about 10 years now and am quite satisfied. I find the remote control a valuable feature.
When considering the Line series vs the SFL series I seem to recall that some thought the SFL to have a more "tubey" sound than the Line series. However, this is only from my now uncertain memory of what I may have read 10 years ago. I have never heard the SFL series.
The Line 1, 2 and 3 series of preamplifier were the successors to the older SFL-1 and 2 series. The SFL series was completely manual whereas the Line series had a full remote controllability.
If you can live without the remote control, I would take the full dual chassis SFL-2 over the Line 2 every day of the week. In fact, I would even take the SFL-2 over the overly complex Line 3.
Am I correct to assume the SFL-2 was a top of the line preamp that was later replaced by the Line 3 and then the new Line 2 was introduced as a mid priced option? So from that I'd take it the SFL-2 was the better preamp?
