Hey all!I'm using a small, class T, Trends TA-10.1 amp here at the office (as seen above) for WAV file playback (very non-critical, and somewhat background, listening), and I'd like to do something similar in the home office.
But the latest version of the Trends amp is more than I want to spend....
Can anyone recommend a similar amp that would run me about $150? And please, no "old receiver" suggestions, as I'd like to keep the footprint small.
Thanks!
Jim

I have read some favorable comments in online forums and blogs about the Tripath T2024c based amp from Sure Electronics. It's on sale on ebay for $35.23 delivered. I recently ordered one but have not received it yet (ships from China). If it is any good, I will post some comments about it.
I just received mine yesterday. I bought it onsale for $35.23 delivered, including a Hunt-Key power supply. For the price, I figured why not? I thought I would try it in a 2nd system, where I normally use an old NAD receiver to drive Paradigm V4 Titans. For background music, or a spare amp, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. However, for critical listening, I'm not sure yet. Hopefully, it needs to burn in for awhile.
It is very detailed, but is a bit lean and dry in the midrange. Bass is a bit lean also. Soundstaging is very good and it resolves fine details a little better than the NAD, but I don't think I could live with the tonal balance the way it is right now for extended listening.
I have a Trends TA10.2P SE power amp with the 4A power supply and a TC-754 preamp with a regulated power supply that I'm not using anymore.
Just FYI.... I have the older Sonic Impact T Amp in the metal enclosure. I don't think they make this one anymore. I also have the Nuforce Icon amp, a bit over your budget at $189.
The Sonic Impact T Amp is smoother than the Nuforce. However, the Nuforce is more dynamic and effortless. Pick your poison. Good luck!
These are what I use for listening to music from my computer. They have very limited bass, so I use an Energy 8" subwoofer with them. These speakers by themselves sound a lot like NHT super zero. You need to make a stand out of PVC to get them to the right height.
Arjen Helder's "New MKIII Tripath TA2020 PCB 25watt Class-T amplifier" on eBay. It's just the board, though, so you'll need to add a case and jacks and volume control and power supply. It's one of the only amp boards that bothers to implement the built-in overload detection indicator feature of the Tripath chips. Search eBay for "MKIII Tripath TA2020 PCB 25watt Class-T amplifier SET" and it'll come with input and output jacks and selector switch and volume pot.
This item, at $21 plus a $9 wall wart, works for me:

It's hardly suitable for critical listening, but it sounds like you don't need it to be.
Happy listening,
Jim
I bought one from P.E. and the remote didn't work. They sent me another, didn't want the first back, the remote didn't work.
Purchase turned into a BOGO
It powers my computer speakers, but, the horror, I have to twirl the knobs!

This unit doesn't have a remote.
Happy listening,

How about the ORB amp? It's under your target price and for ehat you want should fit the bill...

Not class t, but some proprietary digital thing. VERY good sounding amps, I went to them when I got tired of the limitations of class t (like the Trends).

It's a hair more than you want to spend, but in my experience (I've owned a LOT of t-amps) it's the best option. They show up used on agon from time to time.

I'm using that Nuforce amp now, and everything he says is true!
Until recently, when I "upgraded" to a slightly larger hybrid tube/ss desktop amp, I was using a Dayton DTA-100a Tripath amp for my little computer desktop speaker and headphone system, and I was surprised at just how good it was. I'm keeping mine around - just in case I find another use for it.
