Looking for TVC based pre to complement a vintage system I'm building up. What are the options out there ?

Thanks for the info fellas. I have just purchased a completed unit of Django max. No more stamina to indulge in DIY sigh...

I am betting you will like it a lot. Transformer and autofomer preamps are among the best I have ever heard.

Don't worry about avoiding temptation. As you grow older, it will avoid you.

Thanks for encouragement.
I hope to pair this with a pair of vintage Leak 12.1 monoblocks & Rogers 15ohm LS3/5a for occasional trips down the memory lane though my memory don't stretch that far back :-). CD player for this duty is the Studer A730.

I built mine with Sowter transformers and Shallco switches. The hardest part is soldering all the transformer leads to the proper switch positions.
Here us one I got. The price for a balanced TVC was about $1000 directly from Silverstone.

For the last 2 years I've been using a DIY HiFi Supply Django with Silk autoformers. I had two other types of TVC prior to the Django and it is certainly the most transparent of the lot.

What two other types have you used? Did you compare them directly or from memory? I only ask because I will be building a DAC with a built-in volume control and am interested in comparisons of passive devices.
Hey! I have custom built TVC with Stevens & Billington transformers. It's very transparent.
Check S&B website for their offerings (they also run by 'Music First'). Also, see SAC Thailand for their TVC. They manufacture the transformers, not sure if they have a whole unit, but they may do a custom build if you ask.

You have the right to be offended, and I have the right to offend you. But no one has the right to never be offended.

His autoformer modules displaced my Promitheus AVC, which I think is a very good unit in its own right.
