Hello,I just bought(2nd hand)a Ella with KT88's, I know the EL34 version bias is .4 volts, what is the bias for KT88's please?
Follow Ups:
I use .45 for KT88', 6550's and EL34's. I think you can go higher, upto .6 for the KT88's, but I'm not convinced it's any better.
Thanks for the info. I will see what it is currently running at first, and then see if I want to change it.I am guessing the amp is capable of 50w/chnl with the KT88's.
I have mine in triode mode, sounds better to me but is then a good bit less than 50wpc. My speakers are 89db, easily goes loud enough.
I ended up using .44 volts and it worked out sounding pretty good on a pair of JBL 4430's which are 93db/watt.Thanks for the info!
Hey,
Would be very curious about how you would describe the Ella with JBL speakers. I am looking into one myself and currently use 4312b mkii studio monitors. They are also 93db sensitivity but I have noticed they prefer to be kicked a little by an amplifier. From what I've read the Ella, especially kt88/6550, seems to be the best kit for my money at the moment.
Just curious...
With the 4430's they did a very nice job of running them, not quite like a high powered ss amp of course, but very nice spl's.
