i am the 2nd owner of an inspire 807 amp by dennis had, formerly of cary. as per recent disccussion in other forums, mr. had makes very good amps at very good prices.

the amp came with a rocket logo 6N1P input tube, which i had understood was a 6922/6DJ8 type, but have since learned is somewhat different but sometimes directly subs for those. the original listing for the amp by the builder said that the amp was shipped with a 6CG7 "for some tube rolling fun." i had been enjoying the sound with the 6N1P, but tonight popped in a 6CG7. wow. the amp sounds even better!

subsequently i did online searching and found that most posters advise against subbing 6CG7s into 6922/6DJ8 circuits because on paper the parameters are too different. is my good experience due to a 6N1P being closer to a 6CG7 than a 6922 is?

or is part of it that real world experiences don't necessarily follow what specs tell us should happen?

your thoughts are welcomed.

if anyone has put a 6CG7 into a 6922/6DJ8 circuit, please share your experiences.
