Indeed. Technological innovation over the years now allows for better sound quality at lower price points. It's amazing the level of fidelity that is available for just a few thousands dollars.

Regarding the Wilson towers, I heard the XLFs (along with a pair of the Thor subwoofers) at Rocky Mountain Audio Fest 2013 in Denver. It was an incredible demo, and I'm not even a big fan of Wilson speakers. The rest of the gear featured a full DCS digital stack and VTL mono blocks.

The demonstration material was high resolution digital copies of David Wilson's recordings--one of which featured a drummer tearing into his kit. That was the first time I heard a stereo system reproduce the power and dynamics of such an instrument. Of course, unless you have the space to accommodate such a massive system the cost for said system would be a waste of money.

That's the advantage of a smaller listening space. Smaller speakers really do better in such an environment, and the cost that would go towards a large cabinet/drivers can be distributed elsewhere.
