You should buy a better subwoofer to get more bass extension . . . ideally to the mid-20s or so.

You should buy a better subwoofer to get a more even response curve . . . if your sub has a built in peak in the 40-50 Hz range it can combine with most room's natural resonant mode and produce a boom . . . giving you the choice of ignoring the boom or "fixing" it and missing out on the bass.

I'm not accusing your sub of any of those things; I don't know. I'm just saying, those are the reasons people buy better subs: lower bass extension, flatter response, less distortion, higher SPLs.

You should experiment with the placement of your sub to get maximum bass extension and minimum boom. Sometimes a relatively small movement can make a big difference.
