Having heard both, the 3.6 is not much of a jump better than the IIIa in stock form. I have two sets of IIIas in a home theater configuration and the fronts have a set of Mye Stands. With the Mye Stands, I feel they are better sounding than a set of 3.6s with their stock legs. Recently, I took my IIIas up a significant step up in sound. I actively biamped them which to me sound much better than 3.6s in stock form.
