What's the difference between the 5U4, 5U4G, 5U4GA, and 5U4GB tubes?

Posted by PeterCapo on January 10, 2001 at 14:18:28:

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the following tubes?

5U4
5U4G
5U4GA
5U4GB

I don't know, maybe there are yet other variations of these, but I would like to know if they are equivalent to each other and whether or not they are completely interchangeable.

More specifically, my Dynaco (Dynakit) Mark II amps originally used a 5U4GB rectifier. The 5U4GB has straight sides. But, 5U4G rectifiers are available in the ST shape - which looks really cool!

Thanks.
Peter
