REVIEW: Magnepan Magneplanar MG12 Speakers Review by Jose Sifontes at Audio Asylum
Posted by Jose Sifontes on February 29, 2000 at 17:38:59:
Have had these for close to 7 months. Very transparent, great soundstaging. These speakers sound best with high power amps. First set of speakers that has stopped my continues change of speaker hardware.
They lack slam for home theater, but it is a barely noticeable weakness. The positioning has to be perfect to fully take advantage of the Magnepan magic - otherwise they sound like regular speakers.
If you have a tile floor and the maid mops frequently, watch out for moisture seeping into the bottom of the frame.
Resistors are needed early on - unnecessary (in my case) after burn-in. Best for jazz and classical - a stretch for rock (although these speakers are magical for string instruments - they sound great there).
