Cecile McLorin Salvant

Is surely the best young jazz singer around.
So many of the so called jazz singers are just singers singing jazz, how many have a jazz feel, great phrasing, and a jazz voice.
It maybe difficult to describe what a jazz voice is but once you hear it you will know it.
Cecile is a young singer (22) and listening to her cd "Cecile" this morning I realized that she is very special having all the attributes mentioned above, listening to a few more so called jazz singers it is very obvious that they just no even close to what jazz singing is all about.
The "You Tube" link shows Cecile singing with the Keystone big band and it was recorded at the "Jazz a Vienne" festival last year.
Her cd is with the Jean-Francois Bonnel quintet and is very different
it was recorded between 2009 and 2010, wow she was only 19 then!!
She does a version of "No regrets" which surely is now the new reference for this song. This girl is amazing!!
