The S2 is a true reference class piece of gear IMO. I have both. Have not noticed any noise from either. The S2 top plate is solid compared to the S1's vented top plate. My S1's tray has started sticking and needs a gentle nudge to close. I use the S1 for a dedicated headphone system and the S2 is my main CDP in my loudspeaker system.
