IIRC doubling of wire results in the gauge going down by about 3.

So that would put you at 19g or so. I would think that you might something thicker for this application.

That said, I think the geometry and rf/emi shielding ability would be more important here than the gauge.

IMHO any computer used for audio apps needs a good power cord, and will benefit from such a cord, and so will the system.

And it is a long long story but I did post here about how changing a power cord actually stopped the computer from booting until the cord was burned in. Certainly wasnt expecting that!
