I have the XPA-2 fed by a bottlehead Quickie tube preamp via a Transporter DAC. My speakers are Maggie MMG's with modded crossover. The XPA-2 sounds fantastic and is anything but harsh. My old Winsome Labs Mouse t-amp was brighter by far (that was also modded). I could not imagine a better amp for the maggies without dropping some serious coin. Perhaps the preamp you are using is too bright? Or the DAC. IMO the tube pre is the way to go with the Emotiva.
