Re: Prices on vinyl from 1950s thru 1980s

I generally won't pay more than four or five bucks for a record, unless it is rare. The record stores I go to--here on beautiful Long Island--generally sell most of their records for two or four bucks. These records are all in great condition. Of course, some records actually are "worth something," and can sell for six, eight, ten, or more greenbacks. Garage sales are rarely worth the effort, but sometimes you get lucky. I went to a garage sale last weekend, and the guy actually thought his records were "worth someting." He had a bunch of Zappa records, but they were all scratched up. Worthless! I wouldn't have put those discs anywhere near my 'table. The only record he had that wasn't scrathed was some Bill Evans record, and I offered him two bucks for it. He wouldn't take it. Asshole! If you find the right record shop, you'll be satisfied. Remember to inspect any record before you buy it--some record stores I've been to actually have the balls to try to sell records that are all scratched up. Suffice it to say, I haven't been back to those stores.
