Verdier is a serious example of a fully maglev platter, but not the first to use magnetic levitation at least to partially alleviate the weight on the bearing. For one example, the Kenwood L07D platter is partially magnetically levitated and there were several others from days of yore.
As to "magnetic drive", I am highly suspicious of its merits, because of the inherent elasticity of such a system, but doesn't the EAR turntable use something like that? And also there is an optional magnetic drive system for several of the Transrotor turntables.
Not all novel ideas are good ideas, which may be why they appear novel.
