Agree

I find the DL-103 series remarkably tolerant of a wide range of effective art/cart mass. Its performance is not completely reducible to a single variable- there's damping to be considered which is the main ingredient of behavior at arm/cart resonance.

But you're correct in stating that the deign intent of the early Duals was to utilize mid- to high-compliance MM carts, and I feel they are likely to provide their best performance with such carts. I don't know if overkill is the right word exactly, but you don't want to have am mis-match that doesn't allow you capitalize on the assets of both your 'table and cart!

You couldn't go wrong with a Grado,if you like the sound, which is a little fat in the mids,IMO, but sweet and listenable. Later Duals were sold with pre-mounted Ortofons. Recently I have discovered the little pointy-nose Ortofons sound surprisingly good, in their price-class. You might look at an Ortofon Super OM-30 say for around $250 bucks (seems like a reasonable budget target for that 'table- no overkill). I'd love to hear what you think about it.

Good luck.
