RE: Mercury MONOs rule!!!

Mercury monos rule indeed! I have many of them, and when I compare them to the equivalent stereos, the monos always come out on top in dynamic range. Using my fully-modded Groovetracer Rega P3-24 tracking an Exact II at 1.8, I never have trouble with tracing problems. If you find some monos cut by John Johnson (JJ in the dead wax) and with the large print dead wax info, you'll be in audio nirvana. Some UK monos may have quieter surfaces, but lack the punch of the 1st generation US pressings. Look for "FR1" in the later Mercs. These seem to be pressed by RCA (Who pressed the early ones?)and they still exhibit superior sound, thanks to Wilma, Bob, and the rest of the Merc team.
Be sure to check the playback curves of the early ones. If you can't use the proper curve, then manipulating tone controls will come close. The very early Mercs with gold labels and catalog numbers in the 40000 instead of the later MG50000's are every bit as good. BACK TO MONO!
