Yes, the prices have gotten totally out of had....

and the Shelter is my last purchase of a upper end cartridge. I got mine from Japan when they were going around $1k and were being sold here for 41500 on up at that time, but now the cost of a new 901 MKII is just crazy and the 501 MKII is really too much!

I will have the Shelter retipped by Sound Smith with a Micro Line and Boron cantilevel.

After first hearing my AT15sa and AT440MLa (got the 440Mla for $75 new) in my other system and how nice they sounded for a MM, I said I would try a better AT and the reviews were really good on the AT33ptg II and the ART 9. After listening some more last night I can't see me paying mega buck money for just a slight increase in sound. The Shelter may have an edge on the AT33ptg in the sound "weight" of the music is reproduced but other than that, not much difference in over all sound. Plus the At33 is a way better tracking cartridge and has good bass.

I have heard mega buck cartridges and they were nice indeed. but for ME, I can use the extra cash somewhere else. Don't get me wrong, I'm knocking anyone for buying their dream cartridge. If they can afford that and that's what they really want, I say go for it! Nothing wrong with buying a upper end cartridge. :)

I really think the AT33ptgII and the ET-2 are really good match and that why I'm getting the sound/performance I am.
