Just me or is new Q-Up from a gumball machine?

Records spinning deep into the night as I sleep, guilty as charged.

Packing a cartridge to send to SoundSmith, it occurred to me that perhaps the needles would last longer if they didn't grind away in the runout groove for hours on end. So I ordered a Q-Up.

Just opened it. Fans, please forgive me but yuck. It feels no different than something dropped from a gumball machine. I'm embarrassed that I paid $50 for it, which I understand is a discount. Never mind a little anodized aluminum (which I wasn't expecting) but it's not even "good plastic" for godsake. Just trying to adjust one of the little force/tension sliders I fear the whole affair is going to collapse in my hands.

So how is it it gets such rave reviews? Because there's no alternative?

Still, why doesn't anyone mention that when sourced ten-thousand at a time, they're probably $1.13 each. Jesus, this is a $7.95 gadget, maybe $9.95 if you go full-bore retail. The force of a 12-inch arm threatens the piece of junk's very integrity.

C'mon, a Zippo lighter is the same size, trickier to make, a lot more durable, solid in the hand, a pleasure to use, and cheaper!

The audiophool gullibility never ceases to amaze me. I am again embarrassed to be even a secret card-carrying member. Can anyone steer me toward a better option than this cereal box giveaway?
