The Greatest Sound System Ever Made

You say that you listened to music 30 years ago? Did you use 8-tracks or cassettes?

If you owned a turntable and used records, things have changed since then. What used to be considered low fidelity [low-fi] trash and piss-on-it garbage, is now considered to be the very zenith of human achievement, and the finest technology for sound reproduction ever concieved by human kind [see [picture above].

Indeed, some say that such heights could only be achieved through Divine Intervention, but I think that's going too far. But, you never know.

I've linked a thread for you. For further study, just visit the Vintage board, and read the monthly column of The Prophet [aka Art Dudley] in the Stereophile.

Thus, if you're using a turntable, then it should definately make noise. How much depends on you own personal taste. If you listen to a lot of speed metal, then a cement-mixer truck with 18 grinding gears type noise will really enhance the "music" you're blasting. If you're a thumper [and who isn't?], then a goodly amount of rumble will make that EDM/techno really pop. If you listen to classical music, than a nice combination of rumble with wow and flutter will give that Historically Informed Performance [HIP] sound, just like an ancient windup Victrola. And so on.

After all, if you wanted "black silent backgrounds", you'd be listening to digital.
