Not only does it affect the cartridge (see my posting above) but also the turntable bearing which usually requires some heating so that the moving parts expand to give the best fit (usually obtained via the minimal friction that exists as it turns). Of course Brinkmann deal with this in their most expensive turntables by heating the bearing electronically. Friction from the stylus and suspension movement also heats the cartridge.
You may have noticed that, from cold, the first LP side you play sounds a little less good than subsequent ones in a listening session even if the temperatures so obtained are not exactly optimal.
