Was in the mood for the album tonight, and thought I'd pick up the Hear Music reissue. Couldn't find a parking space near the record store, though, so I went home and pulled out my vintage-1975 copy. Surprisingly in much better physical shape than I thought it would be, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sound quality was quite good - a little bit of compression here and there, but to be expected for the era, and not objectionable. Here's my question - has anyone who is familiar with the original heard the new one? Curious, more than anything - not likely I'll spring for it now - just interested to hear your experiences.
FWIW, regarding reissues (especially expensive ones), before deciding to buy an album, I've begun asking myself how many times, realistically, I expect to listen to it. I have upwards of 20,000 records, discs, files, etc., and I've finally started to realize that it's quite rare that I play something repeatedly as I did 40 years ago. So, if it's a passing urge or whim to hear an old friend (as tonight's was), I'm thinking twice or three times before pulling the trigger on $25 to $40 for a one- or two-time spin (of course, it was the parking situation, not common sense, that saved me the $$ this eve).
