RE: I'd have to go with the VYGER...

John,

first, that the stylus should be used to clean the record. That is to say keep the stylus itself clean and you will always have a clean record to boot.

second, that anti skate is often unnecessary. I have heard this directly from the mouths of others, including a consultant to Grado: "they don't like anti skating."

Both statements require additional context in order for them to have any real meaning outside of having been uttered. and, in the case of the latter, actually printed in owner's manuals of yore with respect to keeping records clean. I cannot quote it, but I have read it many times. I would presume that this was meant to be in reference, implied or otherwise, to keeping brand new records clean, as the used record store was relatively new outside of say large cities or college towns. Plus, I have no idea about their existence in Europe at the time (early 1980's, when a Linn was considered "it," at least by many).

While such a broad duo of statements raises far more questions than I can answer or care to here, it remains at least interesting considering the source. With respect to the Grado, I know is was with specific reference to a wood-bodied Sonata, although it may have been also in reference to another or even all modern Grado's. Who knows! To each his own, aka YMMV, and in this case I am all but certain yours does! Grins...
