RE: WTF ? ...or, Down Memory Lane

For me it would have to be the Connoisseur. My first proper turntable was a Connoisseur BD1 kit, which was the same design but without an arm or plinth. The working parts were mounted to a rectangular, black steel plate. I built it up with an AT1005/II arm and a homemade (very rough) plinth, later fitting it into a nice black acrylic slab. A Lenco clear cover, bought as a spare part, sat on top.

My deck was the earlier version without the speed-change mechanism, which was rather flakey I believe, and with a different mat. The set-up saw me through college and beyond, and I used it for almost 10 years. The rubber-band motor suspension underneath was a bit of a problem as I recall, but the manufacturer, A R Sugden, produced an upgrade. BTW, they were not the same company as the maker of Sugden amplifiers, which still exists as said above.
