Correct speaker placement is based on a number of interrelated factors.Room reflections, direct vs. reflected energy, relative phase, room nodes, corner and wall bass reinforcement (and therefore amplitude and balance), polar response of the tweeter, relationship of distance to energy reaching your ears, diffraction off furnishings etc. etc.
The art of speaker positioning is in finding the optimum balance between all the above.
Treatment or no treatment, there is only one 'best' position for your speakers, relative to a fixed listening position.
Treatment simply makes the best postion better and naturally improves all the sub-optimum positions as well.
