If you just can't wait, run down to Autozone (assume you have one nearby) and grab a can of CRC. Cleans well, non-conductive, and evaporates quickly. I use it on my car, and it's what I'd use on my audio stuff if Deoxit wasn't around. For the specific task you described, it will probably work just as well.
