Back in ancient audiophile history, there was a tweak, much like your first idea, that is best described as a "sandbox". The sand was said to add mass, making the box more difficult to disturb and to dissipate any vibrations going into the box whether from the top platform or coming up from the surface the box was mounted on. Of course, those who used the tweak had to consider the weight when locating the box. IIRC, the original Mark Levinson firm was said to have used a similar but much larger setup for one of their TTs that used a Decca cartridge. If you've got the right tools or access to someone's wood working shop, you could easily make the box, add the sand, and place your TT platform on top of the sand. Just make sure that the TT platform is sized to allow you to remove it and give you access to level the sand.
