Be VERY careful using that stuff. It ends up everywhere and since it is conductive it can cause a lot of trouble. Geezerrocket's advice about "less is more" is spot on. In fact I don't recommend it - but many do.
If it was me I'd replace the socket, Heck it's 50 years old. Put a new Belton in there and you're set for another 50 years!
