RE: Replace them with NOS US made sockets

I have to take issue with your advice Chip. And I do so simply because retensioning of tube sockets (IMHO) is "normal maintenance" for tube gear. As I've posted in my FAQ entry, poor pin to socket contact is the #1 cause of tube difficulty. So cleaning and retensioning is a must.

As well:

1. The original sockets may not be Chinese - and not all Chinese sockets are created equal anyway. He could have old stock sockets in there now - or he could have Beltons (super quality!). But even those do need maintenance from time to time.

2. The supply of NOS sockets is small and getting even smaller fast. Suitable replacements may not be readily available nor are they likely to be inexpensive (especially for good octals!).

3. The labor involved is not insignificant and unless the poster has the skills he'd have to pay a decent tab to have a qualified tech replace them for him.

So please don't take this as a slap in the face; you dispense GREAT advice so often on the forums here! But this time I disagree.

My $0.02 worth anyway...
