Vandersteen 5 owner, contemplating a change

Fellow Inmates:

Looking for some counsel here. I own (and love) a pair of original Vandersteen 5s (never upgraded to 5A or Carbon). With retirement beckoning, I'm looking at downsizing and simplifying things. With that in mind, I'm considering replacing the 5s with Treo CTs. I've had the opportunity to audition the Treo CTs a couple of times now with my own source material (BTW, I always make it a point to take along a couple of poor-sounding recordings when auditioning equipment). From the midrange and up, I found the Treos to be sterling performers--lots of high-end sweetness from the carbon tweeter. No comparison in the deepest bass frequencies, of course, which is only to be expected.

I listen almost exclusively to classical music, including a good bit of large-scale orchestra and the occasional pipe organ CD. Would getting rid of the 5s be a huge mistake? Would the Treo's improved resolution in the mids and highs be adequate compensation for the loss of the powered subwoofers? I know these are hugely subjective questions, but I thought the folks here might have some valuable insight. Perhaps someone may have taken a similar approach. Anyone care to weigh in?
