"Better" speaker stands sound less good?

This was a rather confounding development, that I have some Paradigm Studio 20s and they came with matching stands which are very robust - heavy triple posted design with a fairly large top plate on which the speaker sits.

Odd part is I have an old pair of cheap Sanus stands that are single posted and a bit unstable in the footing - tri footed - and with a fairly small top plate. Yet when I compare the sound of those two stands I tend to prefer the cheap Sanus ones

Trying to figure out why this might be - they are basically the same height with the Sanus very slightly shorter. The speakers are rear ported (V.2) and quite heavy for their size.

Could it be that the less robust stands allow the speakers to resonate in a way that I actually find pleasant? I did feel the heavier stands seemed to damp them almost excessively in some manner - maybe in comparison comparable to placing the speakers on top of a solid shelf or something

Do you think it is my misconception to some degree of what sounds "good" or has anyone else experienced something similar? Always find it weird when I get something that is "objectively" superior as to common knowledge and then it doesnt seem to be in my subjective opinion. I guess glad I can experience that that I am not a slave to placebo effect..
