Just listened to an old system in an old house, in a newly altered room. The ceiling height (lowered to 8' sometime in the past) was now at 12' again. This room is once again the cube-shape so typical of early 20th century style. "Cube-shaped dimensions - bad for acoustics...", or so I thought. Now, everything sounds better. Better bass. The soundstage has opened up, especially in height. The acoustical benefits of a raised ceiling certainly outweighed any negatives that might have been introduced by the cubical dimensions, at least in this instance. If you live in an old house you might want to think about a project.
