I recently made an eBay purchase of some KEF 105.2's for $500.00. Went to pick them up yesterday, and found that both woofers were bad, the usual weak spider allowing the coils to scrape issue. I had to negotiate the price down to compensate for the blown woofers. I ended up paying $350 arguing that it will cost $300 with shipping to repair the woofers, but promised to pay the difference if it was less, as I think $650 is about fair market for average 105.2's with newly rebuilt woofers, even if I am doing the leg work...
Anyway, I have a Focal 8K5412 woofer in at Meniscus Audio, apparently they are about or perhaps are THE only facility in the US who can repair flat wire Focal coils. Anyway, I am thinking of sending them the B300's too. Anyone have arguments for or against this? I can't imagine why I would not send them there, but I do want the absolute best for these as I think they may well end up being by forever speakers, warts and all.
Best Regards,
Lou
