Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

80s Speakers

I bought what I was told was a high end system in the 80s. The foam holding the speaker cones to the frame has disintegrated and is completely gone on the 12" woofers and now the midranges. The two tweeters on each speaker seem intact. They are Manhattan Pacific speakers. The amp is a 200 watt/channel AdCom. There is a preamp as well.

So how do I go about finding info to make a decision as to whether I should replace the speaker components with newer versions or re-foaming these? How do I know if the speakers are 4 or 8 ohm? How do I match the speakers to the cross-overs in the speaker cabinets? I see very little info printed on the speaker components - just numbers. Has speaker technology progressed enough in 30 years that I should buy new, or buy new components (woofer, midrange, etc)?
