Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, "(Forever) Live And Die"

For 30 years, it has ticked us off, that the only OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark) song radio stations play is the awful "If You Leave."

When the 86-87 school year started, OMD came out with The Pacific Age. That album's most popular song was "(Forever) Live And Die."

As was our wont, my friends and I would stick around after school, play basketball on the outdoor courts (above). As always, someone had a boombox. When OMD's "(Forever) Live And Die" came on, the normally staid and preppy Kendrick ditched that straight-jacketed persona, grabbed his tennis racket, and broke out in a gay and joyful rendition of the song.

There's a lesson here. Stereotypical Audiophiles are straight-jacketed. They should take a cue from Kendrick, and break out to songs like "(Forever) Live And Die."

I don't know where she got it, but later that Fall '86 semester, our quiet classmate, Lila, wore a white Pacific Age t-shirt. Though not in a yearbook, a photo of her in that shirt belongs in the Class slideshow.

I never know, I never know, I never know, I never know why...
