"Damn it Lummy," wrote one of you audiophiles, "This [expletive deleted] place needs some kick ass heavy metal!"
Why you cussin' at me?
Every week, 3-4 audiophiles talk to me about rock, metal, thrash. Honestly, ever since we were in high school (late 80s), there has always been a thirst for thrash, whose roots are in punk. There was nothing like starting a mosh pit in the school hallways. And nothing topped the 5'0", 95-pound, 4.0 GPA girl ripping off her headphones, and throwing an elbow into the crowd.
So it's time to dig into the vault, and unearth a killer track. In the late-1990 thrash metal boom, Exodus' "Only Death Decides" got overlooked. But for those of you who have actually gone to Exodus concerts, you know that "Only Death Decides" was (is) one of music's finest moments.
In early 1991, we used to have an Exodus "Only Death Decides" t-shirt called "musical skull." It featured a bass and two guitars piercing through a skull. And we have to admit; as much as we liked wearing that shirt, my girlfriend, KJ, looked even more devastating in it [though she preferred her favorite thrash band, Testament].
I flipped through the few photos I have of that era, and unfortunately did not find any of that "musical skull" t-shirt. But I do have this one of me, donning an Impact Is Imminent t-shirt. That was taken while Ko'Olina was being developed.
But yeah, my audiophile friend has the correct sentiment. Sometimes, you just need to bust out the kick-ass thrash.
