Any Wile Nile fans out there?
I just got this 2-CD set, which consists of a pair of notable gigs at the legendary Bottom Line in NYC: the first, one of Willie's earliest shows, from April 26, 1980; and the second, a "comeback" show from January 3, 2000.
If you're a fan of hooky, driving pop/rock with tough, smart, literate songwriting, this is a great set. Though the 1980 show is predictably a little rougher around the edges--after all, it was Willie's first-ever show with a backing band, according to the informative liner notes--both concerts were pretty well recorded (the 1980 concert was broadcast on WNEW-FM). The 2000 show is blistering; after a long hiatus raising his family, Willie was ready to rock, and his band at the time, the Worry Dolls, provided smokin' backup.
I grew up in NYC, but I never saw Willie live (something I'm hoping to rectify soon). This set is a really nice souvenir for Nile fans, containing two historic shows from the venue that he called his second home. And I got it for less than $13 shipped.
Anyhoo, for anyone interested!
This is a public service announcement . . . WITH GUITARS!!!
