John Mayall...

...I saw John Mayall for the first time last night in a small 800 seat theater downtown.

He was pretty amazing considering he's 80 years old.

Before the concert he was at a table in the lobby, selling and autographing his new CD and posing for pictures. Naturally I got both.

He played keyboards, harmonica and guitar, had a bass player a drummer and a lead guitarist.

All of the musicians were phenomenal and he had the energy, looked and played like someone 20 years younger. The best thing about seeing him and other aging rockers like Jagger and McCartney is they look like they are having a great time playing.

It was a little funny to see him in shorts, sandals and a Hawaiian style shirt but his luggage didn't arrive with him.

This is the guy whose first album came out in 1964 and his earlier bands included Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor, so he knows great musicians.

The show went on for nearly 2 hours and they played some terrific music, including some good cuts from the new CD and of course, ended with "Room to Move" as his encore.

He got a standing ovation at the end and it was a great show. See him if you get the chance.

I told my wife, "I hope I have that much energy when I'm 80."

She said, "So do I."
