Here are three suggestions for recent albums that have a somewhat similar exotic and Middle Eastern sound and are of stereo demo quality as an added attraction.

Vas: Sunyata
This is the 1997 debut on the Narada label of Iranian born/Indian educated Azam Ali and Californian Greg Ellis. Their music is similar to DCD at times as Ali sings, like Lisa Gerrard, in a language of her own design to express emotions too intricate for simple words. There is also a strong emphasis on the percussion aspect of the sound and Ellis fuses Middle Eastern, African and American jazz to create the rhythms. This one is a sure bet for DCD fans but stands out as very unique and in some ways more pure and passionate that any of DCDs albums. Also check out the 1999 'Offerings' which I have read is very good but have not yet heard.

Robert Rich: Seven Veils
This is a 1998 instrumental release on the Hearts of Space label that I have seen described as "ancient music from another planet" which may not be far off. A blend of Middle Eastern percussion and constanly changing ambient atmospheres textured with his lap steel guitar and bamboo flute along with others contributing cello, violin, bass and occasional searing electric guitar. A very high level of melodic and rhythmic sophistication on this album will keep you exploring it for a long time.

David Sylvian: Dead Bees On A Cake
This is also an excellent sounding album released in 1999. It is quite a departure from previous albums by Sylvian and was about four years in the making, using a wide range of first rate musicians from all parts of the world and outstanding production to create an atmospheric and exotic sound. Sylvian sings in a deep, rich voice and it is used very well on this collection of songs expressing an intimacy and sometimes spiritual mysticism that is very comforting.
